Sub-Fertility: Male Factor
Have you been to the Doctors and they have diagnosed you with ‘Male Factor’? You are not alone. Around 30-40% of couples who struggle to conceive have male factor to contend with. Your male factor could be due to sperm motility, vitality, morphology, agglutination or sperm antibodies (or perhaps a mix).
The reason behind your sub-fertility could be down to a number of reasons including: environmental estrogens (xenoestrogens), cigarette smoke, tumour, radiation, homocysteine levels, poor nutrition, pesticide exposure or an infection, hormonal problems, heat (just to name a few…).
Sperm are very fragile creatures given their size, and the fact they are rarely physically exposed can exacerbate problems. The good news is unlike eggs, you manufacture completely new sperm every 80-days so changing your diet and lifestyle can do a lot to improve your sperm. If your health concern is more deep-rooted, for example an immune response then it can take longer to get your body back into balance and those sperm happy again.
